Meet the Author - Kylie Welch
Kia ora and welcome! I’m Kylie Welch — a children’s book author, storyteller, and creative heart based in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Inspired by everyday moments, I write books that blend real-life lessons with wonder, warmth, and plenty of adorable fun. My stories explore friendship, courage, nature, grief, loss, and emotional growth, and are rooted in truth and told with love.
I believe stories have the power to shape us. They can stay with us for years after reading, teaching, comforting, inspiring, and helping us make sense of the world around us. Many of my books are sparked by real-life experiences, from a rescued baby hedgehog to the true story of my dearly missed dog Ella-Mae, or the rhythm of the seasons in My Kiwi Garden.
When I’m not writing, you’ll find me in my garden, enjoying nature, creating, and spending time with family. I hope my books bring joy, connection, and meaningful conversations to children and the adults who share them.
About My Children’s Books
Each of my children’s books is crafted with intention, designed to spark conversations and nurture young hearts. I think of my stories as a helpful tool for emotional learning, connection, and imagination.
My books cover a range of gentle, meaningful themes from celebrating adventure and friendship to enjoying nature. Balance and teamwork, facing fears and the importance of community and having the support of others, outdoor play and the importance of conservation. Stars in our Hearts and Ella-Mae the Show Puppy Crosses the Rainbow Bridge – gently explores the topic of grief & My Kiwi Garden is a beautifully hand-painted celebration of New Zealand’s native flora and fauna.
These books are loved by children of all ages, with illustrations that captivate, language that comforts and captures attention, and lessons that linger. Many are enjoyed as read-alouds at bedtime or used in classrooms to help children build emotional awareness. It’s my greatest joy to know that these stories are being read, shared, and treasured.
